Table Roller: Instructions v2.1 · 31 Oct 2026
5150 is a game by Ed Teixeira, published by Two Hour Wargames. Please support Two Hour Wargames by buying their products. The Table Roller rolls the dice for the tables in 5150: New Beginnings and Known Space. It shows only the result you rolled, not the whole table: you'll need the book for the table, its modifiers and the rule, and every table shows its page.
1. Finding a table
The Table Roller is one terminal screen. Every roll prints on the screen, newest at the bottom, with the book and page it comes from; the screen keeps your last 60 rolls (Clear screen wipes it). The buttons along the bottom pick the table. On a phone, the latest result also shows beside the Roll button, so you needn't scroll up.
- The tables are sorted by when you'd use them. The top row of buttons is the groups:
- Gameplay: on the table: Combat, Draw! and bar fights, Challenges and talking, meeting people, Psy, ship combat and Alien Fight Night.
- Campaign: between missions: your Star's Rep and Attributes, gear and home life, Enhancements and Stims, planets and travel.
- Missions: inside an Encounter: getting a mission, getting around the city, Chillin', the fighting jobs, robbery, police and justice, hauling, mining and salvage.
- Known Space: everything from the Known Space supplement: who owns each Sector, star systems, cities and the wilds, travel, Expeditions, trading, Marooned, mining and salvage, and Boarding Actions.
- The next row (dashed outlines) is the chosen group's sections, each showing how many tables it has.
- The row under that is the section's tables. Click one to choose it: its name, page and boxes (Rep, dice…) appear under the rows with the Roll button. Pressing Enter in a box rolls too.
- Find a table searches every table's name, e.g. "Police", "Shooting" or "Mining". Each table found shows the group and section it lives in.
- The page's address remembers the section (e.g.
tables/#gameplay/combat), so you can bookmark one.
2. The kinds of table
Roll and read
Press Roll. The dice are rolled (1d6, 2d6 or ½d6) and the result is shown.
Taken versus Rep
Type the Rep (or People, Savvy or Law Level, as the table says) and how many dice to roll. Each die that scores that number or less passes; on most tables a 6 always fails. Passed dice glow and failed dice are grey, and the result for the number passed is shown.
Both sides roll
Tables like Action, Melee, Interaction and Hacking compare two rolls. Fill in your dice and number and theirs: the tool rolls both and shows the result for More, Same or Less, from your side.
1d6 against Rep
Shooting Damage: type the target's Rep and any modifier (e.g. +2 for no armour). It shows Natural 6, Higher, Equal or Lower.
Tables with nothing to roll (Weapons, Base Wages, the Minor Races and so on) aren't in the Table Roller: read them in the book.
3. Modifiers and columns
- Each table's modifiers (Attributes and circumstances) are in the book. Apply them by changing the dice or the number before you roll.
- Tables with a Modifier box add it to the roll, e.g. the Area's Law Level for Robbers, or −1 in Daytime for a building. Results past the end of a table use its first or last row.
- Tables with several columns (by Class, Race, Ring or Day Part) have a menu to choose the column.
- Some results ask for a second roll, e.g. "then 1d6: 1-2 Drantakh, 3 Grath…". The Roll button makes that roll as well and shows it underneath.
4. Page numbers
Every table shows where it is, e.g. "New Beginnings p.46 (also p.235)" or "Known Space p.22". The second page is the book's quick-reference copy. The results here are short summaries in our own words; the book has the whole table, the full rule and the examples.
5. The play log (saving your rolls)
Every roll you make is also written into a play log, with the time, the table's book and page, the dice and the result. It's kept in this browser, so it's still there if you close the page, and it keeps every roll, not just the ones on the screen.
- Save log (.txt) downloads the whole log as a plain text file. The number on the button is how many rolls it holds. Open it in any text editor, or upload it to turn your game into a blog post or video notes.
- Clear log starts a fresh one (do this at the start of each play session). Clear screen only clears the screen; the log keeps everything.
