NPC Fleet: Instructions v1.2 · 31 Oct 2026
5150 is a game by Ed Teixeira, published by Two Hour Wargames. Please support Two Hour Wargames by buying their products. The NPC Fleet rolls the ships you meet on a Contact in Space (5150: New Beginnings p.82–87). It's NPC Squads for spaceships. You'll need the book to play.
1. Quick start
- Choose the Ring you're in, and how many ships are on your side.
- Press Contact in Space. A new contact appears on top, as cards.
- As the fight goes on, click the THR and HULL squares to mark damage.
2. What gets rolled
Unless you pick them yourself: Who Are They? (a 6 is a Random Event instead, shown in place of ships), Whose Flag Is It Flying? by Ring (once for the whole contact), and How many? (half a d6: one fewer than your ships, the same, or one more). Each ship gets its Class's numbers, a random name and its own Captain, whose Rep is rolled by race (+1 for Military). Slavers are always crewed by Hishen and one Grath, with a Razor Captain. The rolls are listed under each contact, with how that kind of ship behaves.
Crew size can follow New Beginnings (by Class) or Known Space (the Captain's Rep).
3. Shipyard ships
Choose Ship rules: Shipyard variants to roll ships from 5150: Shipyard's lists instead of the book's plain Classes. Who Are They still decides the kind of ship; each one becomes a Shipyard variant of that kind (Pirates may be Pirates, Raiders or Ravagers; Military Cutters may be Cutters or, on a 6, a Frigate), with its own Thrust, Firepower, Hull, crew (Hull + 1) and modules, and its Risk Conversions rolled. The card shows the variant's name, and its modules and Risks on the bottom line. In Guided Ship Combat they all count.
4. The ship cards
Each card shows the ship's name and Class, its flag, the Captain (face, name, Rep, race and Attributes) and the four numbers: THR Thrust, FIRE Firepower, HULL and CREW. Thrust and Hull drop as you mark damage.
Click an empty square to add a point of damage; click a crossed one to take it away. At Thrust 0 the card is stamped Boardable; at Hull 0, Destroyed. After 2 Hull damage an NPC tries to Cut and Run, and the card says so. Mark a ship Ran, Surr(endered) or Boom with the buttons along the bottom.
5. The buttons
Under each card: Re-roll the ship, New name, New face for the Captain, a PNG of the card, Captain to Journal (adds the Captain to the Cast in your Character Journal) and Remove. On each contact: + One more ship, a PNG of group, and Remove. Click a contact's name to rename it. Print / PDF all cards prints every card at business-card size (choose Greyscale colours first).
Your own ship goes on the Ship Sheet.
