5150 is a game by Ed Teixeira, published by Two Hour Wargames. Please support Two Hour Wargames by buying their products. The Guided Fight plays one 5150: New Beginnings fight on the Battle Board, turn by turn, in the book's order (p.43–55). It's the same Battle Board the Guided Campaign uses for its fights, on its own for when you just need a fight. You'll need the book for the full rules.
1. Your side
- Use the Character Generator's Star takes the character open in the Character Generator in this browser, with its Band (Rep, weapon, Profession and any Attributes written in their notes).
- Load a character file opens a
name.5150.jsonsave file. - Or type in a quick Star: name, Rep, Class, weapon and armour, plus up to four Grunts (Rep and weapon), then press Use this quick Star.
2. Their side
- Choose the Area (it changes who you meet), Day or Night (at night everyone is in Cover), and who: a Class, Police officers, or "Roll it" for the book's Who Are They roll (p.60).
- Roll how many, and make them: ½d6 against your Band (1 = one fewer, 2 = the same, 3 = one more, p.59). Or choose an exact number.
- Each opponent is made with the book's NPC tables: race, Rep, People, Savvy, Profession, weapon and armour (p.60–63). The Leader is rolled with ½d6. Press again for a new group.
3. The fight
- Choose Lethal (guns), Fists only (no shooting; Obviously Dead becomes Out of the Fight), or a Bar fight (fists, bottles and chairs; each figure takes I'm Outta Here instead of Will to Fight; p.53–54). Then set up the Battle Board and untick any Band members who aren't there.
- Where (Known Space p.63–64): Normal, Zero-G (with air), Zero-G in vacuum, Vacuum (gravity, no air) or a Hostile Atmosphere. Anywhere but Normal, the Action, Shooting and Melee tests use Savvy instead of Rep, unless that side is trained (Marines, or 2d6+6 months of training; FOR NOW trained figures also get the +1d6 in Melee for Zero-G experience). Suits: a Space suit counts as Soft Body Armour, a Hard suit as Hard Body Armour (and −1 on the Action table). With no air (or hostile air), anyone without a suit is Obviously Dead, and a torn Skinsuit (Out of the Fight) is Obviously Dead unless a friend Reaches them that turn to patch it. In a Hostile Atmosphere everyone is In Cover; energy weapons get +1 in vacuum and −1 in a Hostile Atmosphere. A Star who uses Star Power with no air is −1 Rep for the rest of the fight.
- Each turn (p.44): the Advantage is rolled; your Leader rolls on the Action table against theirs; the Active side acts; both sides take Will to Fight; then the other side acts and Will to Fight again.
- When one of your figures is Active, choose: Shoot (pick its targets in order, up to its weapon's number), Charge, Reach a friend who's down, Leave the Battle Board, or Hold.
- Every roll for your figures asks you: Roll for me, or type the dice you rolled. The NPCs decide and roll for themselves; it's all in the fight's log.
- When your Star is hurt, choose to roll Star Power (each 1–3 lowers the damage a level; using any costs 3 Decreasing Rep d6) or take the hit. At Will to Fight, your Star can use Free Will to lead your side off.
- The rules it follows, and where the book isn't clear, are as in the Guided Campaign's instructions.
- Your progress is kept in this browser after every button, so you can close the page mid-fight and carry on.
4. Results
- The Rep d6 for your sheet (p.19): +1 Increasing per enemy Out of the Fight or Obviously Dead; −2 for leaving the Battle Board; −3 for using Star Power; −3 per Band member left behind.
- Recovery (p.50) is rolled for each Band member who went down or left. If your Star is Obviously Dead you can Cheat Death (p.22).
- Add the results to your Star in the Character Generator. Rematch fights the same sides again; New opponents keeps your side; New fight starts over.
5. The play log (saving your fights)
Save log (.txt) downloads a plain text file of your fights: both sides (with every NPC's details), every roll turn by turn, and the results and Rep d6. Upload it or paste it anywhere to turn the fight into a blog post or video notes.
- Each finished fight is kept in the log when you start a Rematch, New opponents or a New fight, so one file can hold a whole evening's fights. The fight on screen is added when you save.
- Clear log forgets the earlier fights (the one on screen stays).
